Finals results for Group 3 from the survey questionnaire


This is the final chart of results for group 3 volunteers from the survey questionnaire.

Question: Overall, do you feel that the Internet has affected your literacy?
Answer: According to males (blue) 15% responded yes and 24% responded no.
Answer: According to females (red) 26% responded yes and 35% responded no.

Comments: These are a few comments that explain why or why not to the question above.
Comment: The Internet is really efficient and have reduced me to reading less.
Comment: Yes, I use the Internet for everything from reading to writing, and it has changed, but for the better.
Comment: No, I don't feel any different from the use of the Internet, in fact I still read the same way  and write the same.
Comment: No, the Internet has not changed my literacy, because I do not use it as often as other people.
Comment: Yes, I feel the Internet has changed the way that I research information and changed me for the best, because I am more tech. savvy.
Comment: My literacy has changed but for the better, I think. 
Comment: I use the Internet because it is a requirement for my job, but I do feel it has changed the way I read information, and I do not read books much when I am relaxed, but still use the computer.
Comment: I am a continued education student and I find that the Internet has changed the way I read information, and I use the Internet to brainstorm before I write a paper.
Comment: I use the Internet, but needless to say, I don't feel my literacy has been affected.
Comment: Honestly, I feel that anything you use too much of will affect you to some degree.

Question: Do you skim through in-depth information on the Internet?
Answer: According to males (red) 26% responded yes and 12% responded no.
Answer: According to females (green) 49% responded yes and 13% responded no.

Question: Are you employed?
Answer: According to males (green) 34% responded yes and 4% responded no.
According to females (purple) 34% responded yes and 28% responded no.

Comments: Here are a few comments from group 3 volunteers from the first question of why or why not?
Comment: I read what is pertinent to what I want to know.
Comment: It really depends on how much information I need or want.
Comment: I do not spend alot of time on things that are not essential.
Comment: Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't summarize, it depends.
Comment: I try to find what is relevant to the topic that I am looking for.
Comment: I have to finish a book a week  in order to participate in a class discussion, so I skim to find the important information about the book online.
Comment: It depends on the content whether I read or skim through in-depth information.
Comment: I am much older and not that interested in the Internet because it is too much information out there in cyberspace.
Comment: I only read in-depth to get important information.
Comment: If I skim through I might miss small yet important information, so I read everything even the small print.

Answers: According to males (blue) 7% responded yes and 32% responded no.
                According to females (red) 22% responded yes and 47% responded no.

Question: Do you look for quick fixed answers?
Answers: According to males(blue) 8% responded yes and 31% responded no.
                According to females (red) 26% responded yes and 35 responded no.

 Comments: Here are a few comments answering why or why not to the above question.
 Commnet: I am a mechanic and and when I search for information, don't have a lot of time to read, so I skim through for quick fixed answers.
Comment: It greatly depends on what I am looking for.
Comment: Quick fixed answers are not always the right immediate answers even when you find them in the Internet.

These are the number of volunteers for group 3
The first chart reflects there were 39 males and 61 females who took surveys totaling 100 people.

The second or middle chart reflect answers to the question below.
Question: Do you use the Internet to summarize what you have not read?
Answer: According to males (blue) 11% responded yes and 28% responded no.
             According to females (red) 35% responded yes and 27% responded no.

The third chart reflects answers to the question below.
Question: Do you twitter?
Answer: According to males (blue) 0% responded yes and 39% responded no.
             According to females (red) 15% responded yes and 47% responded no.

Comments: Here are a few of the comments from the second question from the survey questionnaire.
Comment: I love to relax and read instead of reading on the Internet, because my eyes get tired from all the light from the screen.
Comment: If I am having a job interview , I use it to research information about that company and summarize it so I can remember information that pertains to that company.
Comment: I do not attend school and I do not need to summarize anything thing in particular on the Internet.
Comment: I read the Bible on-line sometimes, I might skim throughthen summarize what I need to know from that lesson.
Comment: The Internet is an excellent tool for summarizing anything that you have not read previously and that is what I do.
Comment: I use the Internet for my job as a Information Specialist and I do summarize a bit.
Comment: Who doesn't  summarize from time to time.

Question: Overall, do you feel that the Internet has changed your literacy?
Answers: According to males (blue) 30% responded yes and 8% responded no.
According to females (red) 46% responded yes and 16% responded no.

Comments: These are a few additional comments that answers why or why not to the question. 
Comment:  I have a short attention span, so there is a instant accessibility to information.
Comment: I look at the Internet as a good tool when you can recognize the garbage.
Comment: I want things to be quick and concise.
Comment: Yes, but no, I do check reviews, but I don't really listen to them.
Comment: It has hurt my eyesight; yet, it has definitely increased the amount of material available to me.
Comment: It is so easy to find information which leaves no point of reading.
Comment: I think the Internet makes me more impatient; unless I am reading a novel for fun.
Comment: The Internet has made it a lot easier for me to find things I need to write.
Comment: The Internet has been a part of my life for so long that I cannot perceive anyway in which it has changed me.
Comment: I feel the Internet has changed the ways in my normal patterns, because it does make things easier and  more convenient.

Answers: According to males (blue) 26% responded yes and 12% responded no.
According to females (red) 49% responded yes and 13% responded no.

Question: Are you employed?
Answers: According to males (blue) 37% responded yes and 1% responded no.
Answers: According to females (red) 31% responded yes and 32% responded no. 

Comments: These are a few additional comments from the first question of why or why not?
Comment: I usally skim through unless it catches my eyes because whatever I'm doing is usually      waiting  to the last minute.
Comment: It depends on what I'm reading and how long it is and how interesting I find it.
Comment: I skim through because it is quicker.
Comment: I tend to look for key words so I can find the information faster.
Comment: I only need to read what is important.
Comment: It depends on what I am looking for.
Comment: I skip and skim until I find what I'm looking for and then I read in-depth.

 The first chart reflects 100 people in group 2.
 There were 41 males and 59 females of survey takers.

 Question: Do you use the Internet to summarize a story you have not read?
 Answers: According to males (blue) 11% responded yes and 28% responded no.
               According to females (red) 35% responded yes and 27%  responded no.

 Answers:  According to males (blue) 0% responded yes and 39% responded no.
                 According to females (red) 47% responded yes and 15% responded no. 

 Comments: Here are a few comments from the first question when asked why or why not.
 Comment:  Generally no, I prefer to read the original work; I have done this in a pinch to pass an    assignment once or twice though.
Comment: No, because I know how to do my own work.
Comment: No, because chapters are usually summarized in the back of the book.
Comment: I use spark notes all the time for books, I don't have enough time to read for school.
Comment: I will look up reviews or summarize a book that I might be interested in reading in the future.
Comment: I like to find out on my own.
Comment: It would ruin it if I summarize something I have not read.
Comment: Because I usually wait until the last minute to complete assignments.

According to females (red) 51% responded yes and 11% responded no.

Comments:There were a few comments made by group1.
Comment: It is quicker.
Comment: I have read more on the internet and sometimes I don't like reading.
Comment:Yes because you can look up any type of information that is needed for your reading and writing.
Comment: Yes, I think it has made my attention span much shorter.
Comment: I definetly write more diffeerently, more lazily.
Comment: In the past I  used books for additional information, but since I have grown older, I just use the internet.
Comment: The Internet is quicker for finding information.

   Comments: Here are some additional comments from survey takers in response to the first question:
   Comment: Sometimes I do  and sometimes I don't it depends.
   Comment: I skim through to find the important parts because I do not have time to read the
   entire thing.
   Comment: Maybe, it depends on what it is.
   Comment: I get bored easily.
   Comment: I don't read  much on the Internet.
   Comment: I almost skim through everything I read.
   Comment: I read 2 to 3 paragraphs to see if it is what I am looking for.
   Comment: I really read to see what I am generally looking for. 
   Comment: I skim and do in-depth reading.

According to females (red)  53% responded yes and 9% responded no.

Question: Do you look for quick fixed answers?
Answer: According to males (blue) 37% responded yes and 1% responded no.
Answer: According to females (red) 51% responded yes and 11%  responded no.

Note: Clearly there were more females who looked for quick fixed answers.

Results of Group 1 from the survey questionnaire



The first chart shows group 1 ages: 17-21 survey volunteers.

   There were a total of 100 survey voluteers 38 males (blue) and 62 females (red)
 The second or middle chart reflects the answer to the survey question below.
  Question: Do you use the Internet to Summarize a story you have not read?
  Answer: According to 27% of males (blue)  responded yes and 38% of females (red) summarized a   story they had not read.
                 According to11% of males (blue) were no and 34% of females (red) summarized less.

The third chart reflects the answer to the survey question below.
    Question: Do you twitter?
    Answer: 0% of males twitter and 4% of females twitter.
                    38% of males did not twitter and 58% of females do not twitter.

Commments: Here are a few comments from group one according to the answer of question  two.
Comment: It is so much easier to summarize because I don't have time to read much with all my   classes.
Comment: I thank the Lord for Google, but I don't think that is nothing wrong with summarizing, just not all the time.
Comment: When you summarize a story before you read it, you take the fun out of the suspense of the reading the story.
Comment: I summarize sometimes, but most of the time, I usually read the actual required materials.
Comment: I just think its easier to summarize everything, because it gives me time to do other things.
Comment: Think about it this way, why should it matter how you get information as long s it is accurate.
Comment: I only the Internet to research, not to summarize a story, because I like to read okay!
Comment: I am in college, and most of my courses require some or alot of research, so its hard not to summarize something that I have not read previously.
